Prom 2015: Look One!

Oh how I love prom season! I love getting to know young girls and feeling like I’m in school again. Not to mention, these young ladies will let me do whatever look I think will look best for their features and their dress. I can’t believe it’s been 14 years since my last prom! My goodness, I feel old! I went to 3 of them and had a blast at all three. Each year I made sure to have a completely different look than the year prior. This week and next, I’ll be sharing a couple of inspiration looks that I’m loving this prom season! This first look is my absolute favorite! You can find this AMAZING sort-of “retro” dress here.

Prom-Look-One

1. Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette $54: I think most girls are less likely to get this palette out of all of the Naked palettes due to the pink tones. But I’m here to tell you, this is by far the best out of all of them for EVERY skin tone and eye color! Brown/hazel eyes can pretty much do any color shadow and liner, and blue and green eyes look best with warmer tones. I would add pink shades to the warm category (again, this is just my opinion and preference!) so therefore this palette is perfection. It even has a few cooler shades that would look beautiful on brown eyes. To anyone reading this….. You NEED this palette!

2. Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer $44: I would give anything to have my teenage skin back! Well, my high school teenage skin! No fine lines at all! This tinted moisturizer is all you need for prom as far as foundation goes. It gives the skin a beautiful, natural glow. And if you were like me in my middle school days and have blemishes and acne, all you have to do is mix this with your full coverage foundation and you still get that glow!

3. Make Up For Ever PlexiGloss in Nude Pink $19: If you’re going to do a dramatic eye, you need to keep the lip color muted. That’s why I chose this nude gloss for this look. It will look great on any skin tone and with any eye look. And most young girls prefer gloss over lipstick. =)

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte Waterproof Bronzer $30: This bronzer is so versatile. You can contour your cheekbones and nose with it or you can use it as a blush. The color is great for everyone because it has the perfect balance of red and yellow undertones. It’s also waterproof so you’ll be ready to sweat and dance the night away!!

I’ll be back next week with a new look! Have a great PROM weekend!!

Valentine’s Day Beauty

I don’t normally get to spend actual Valentine’s Day with my husband because he’s already down in Daytona getting ready for the Daytona 500. But this year is different because we’re impatiently waiting for our daughter to arrive! The only thing I can do for myself these days is wash and style my hair and put my makeup on to make myself feel halfway decent. And even that’s a bit of a chore! But this Valentine’s Day, I plan to get the top half of my body ready for a low key date with the hubs!

Today I’m sharing with you my favorite Valentine’s Day beauty products that will work for everyone!! Even if you’re single and having a fun night out with your girlfriends, you’ll love these products to make you feel super girly!

Valentines

1. Eyes: Always start with the eyes! This way, you can easily wipe away any shadow fall out with a makeup remover or you could even use your favorite face primer (This one is my favorite) to remove the fallout. That way you’re killing two birds with one stone!

* Prime – My all time favorite is MAC Painterly Paint Pot. Your eye makeup will stay in place all day/night.

* Shadows – I’m obsessed with this Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette. I love all of the cool shades! The pinks and plums will make a great smokey Valentine’s Day look!

* Liner – You can’t go wrong with an ink liner. And this Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is by far my favorite because of it’s pigment and ease of getting that winged look.

* Mascara – Right now I’m loving Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. It adds a ton of length and volume!

2. Complexion: After finishing my eyes and cleaning up the shadow fallout and setting my skin with my face primer I start on my foundation.

* Foundation – I’m a sucker for a medium to full coverage foundation. And during the colder months I love Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. It’s so creamy and moisturizing. Not to mention it stays put all day long!

* Concealer – My go-to concealer is MAC Prolong Wear Concealer in NW15 but I for an extra, subtle highlight I will mix in Bare Minerals Stroke Of Light Eye Brightener and apply it with my beauty blender. If ya’ll don’t have one, get a beauty blender!! It blends concealer so nicely!!

* Setting Powder – Since it’s winter and I’m using a little heavier foundation I like to set my powder with a translucent powder. My all-time favorite is Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. It settles into the skin as opposed to sitting on top of it like most loose powders.

3. Cheeks: Next step is cheeks!

* Contouring – I just bought this Too Faced Cocoa Contour Kit and am loving it so far! The two contouring colors are perfect for every skin color. I use Medium Cocoa to contour my cheeks and nose and use Dark Cocoa to bronze the top of my forehead and under my chin and neck. The Pop of Light highlighting powder is amazing because it’s so subtle but when the light hits it, it brings out your cheekbones like none other!

* Contouring Brush – If you want the best contour, INVEST in the Nars Ita Brush! Trust me, you won’t regret it!!

* Blush – My go-to pink blush has always been Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface. It’s predominantly matte but has a bit of a satin finish to it once applied. This blush will last you forever because a little bit goes a long way.

4. Lips: Nothing says Valentine’s Day like a gorgeous bright pink lipstick!!

* Lip Liner – I’ll fill in my entire upper and bottom lips with MAC Lipliner in Candy Yum Yum. Filling them in completely will help keep your lipstick looking fresh for a hours!

* Lipstick – My BFF Lauren turned me onto this lipstick! And I LOVE using it on brides! It’s what matches the liner, MAC Candy Yum Yum. I love wearing it when I use more pinks and plums on my eyes. It ties it all together!

5. Set: After spending so much time getting ready, it’s so important to set your makeup. The absolute best product to use is Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. Trust me, your makeup will NOT MOVE!!!

I hope everyone has a great Valentine’s Day! And I hope I’ve helped give you so ideas of changing up your go-to beauty look!

Makeup Fail!

IMG_5362-1

Let’s face it, we’ve ALL had a makeup fail! Even me! The fun thing about makeup is that it’s trial and error. You can play with different looks to see what best suits you. I wanted to share with you today my biggest makeup fail. It’s one that I am VERY passionate about and don’t want you to make the same mistake.

With YouTube makeup tutorial videos nowadays it’s so easy to recreate a look from one of your favorite artists. I watch them all the time to get inspiration! But one thing that I notice that a lot of artists do that I can’t stand is setting their under-eye concealer with a highlighting powder from a contour kit. The most popular highlighting powders these artists use are Anastasia Beverly Hills highlighting shade in Banana and MAC Cosmetics Shaping Powder in Emphasize. Highlighting powders have microfine, soft focus technology that accentuates the high planes of the face. They’re meant to bring those areas forward. They go great in conjunction with sculpting powders. The main places that you should highlight on your face are your cheek bones, brow bone, bridge of your nose, and cupids bow of your lips.

Yes, in theory using these powders to set your concealer makes sense. Most peoples skin under their eyes are darker so using a lighter concealer and setting it with a highlighting powder will take the focus off of the darkened area. In certain light it will brighten that area. But what these artists forget about is the flash from a camera when being photographed. Once that camera flashes, all you see is white under the eyes. Here’s an (I hate this picture of me but it was taken the same night as the photo below and shows exactly what I’m talking about!) example of what I’m talking about:

IMG_6289

Do you see how white my under-eyes are compared to the rest of my skin?! I look ridiculous! But hey, I’m only human. I tried a look, it didn’t work, and I learned my lesson! The best thing you can do to correct this makeup fail is use a concealer under your eyes that is a shade lighter than your natural skin tone. My favorite concealer right now is MAC Cosmetics Pro Longwear Concealer. A little half pump of this goes a long way! And then I’ll apply it with a wet Beauty Blender. Once it’s blended well, I will then set it with my all-over setting powder that is the same shade as my skin and foundation. A little bit of the lighter shade of the concealer pops through so my dark circles are hidden. The setting powder doesn’t have the soft focus technology that a highlight powder does so when you take photos, you won’t look like a raccoon like I did!

I hope you don’t make the same mistake I did! Trust me, it never turns out well! What have been your makeup fails?!

Top 5 Eyeshadow Palette Gifts

Every girl loves a great eyeshadow palette. What’s not to love about something that you can take anywhere with you, has all of the colors you need to get you from day to night, and will last you forever?! Here are my top 5 eyeshadow palettes that will make the perfect gift for anyone!

1. Urban Decay Naked 3 ($54) – Most women are hesitant to purchase this palette out of the 3 Naked palettes because of it’s rosy colors. But this one, is by far my favorite. The neutral, pink tones look great on every skin tone, hair color, and eye color! It has the perfect selection of matte and shimmer shades as well as light and darker shades. Trust me when I say, it’s the best! s1573336-main-hero-300

2. Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar ($49) – An eyeshadow palette that smells like chocolate?! Yes please!! This follow-up palette to the Chocolate Bar has more warmer, deeper tones than the original. This 16 shadow palette is super pigmented and has shades of bronze, mocha, caramels, and even a gorgeous shimmery blueberry shade. It even comes with a how-to guide to help with new looks! p392009-av-01-hero300

3. Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette ($44) – Matte shadows can be tricky. It’s hard to find quality matte shades that aren’t chalky and blend well. But look no further! The Amazonian Clay palette will be your new best friend! This palette features 12 shadows ranging from light highlighting colors to darker shades for contouring and smokey looks. Matte shadows are perfect for more mature women as shimmery shadows tend to settle into fine lines. s1659424-main-hero-300

4. Lorac Pro Palette 2 ($42) – I have been using this palette pretty much everyday since I bought it. It’s simply gorgeous. You can read my full review on this palette hereLORAC PRO PALETTE 2

5. Kat Von D Innerstellar Eyeshadow Palette ($46) – I saved the most fun for last! This limited edition palette is split up into three quads that features a larger highlighting shade with three coordinating shades. This palette has gorgeous “space-themed” shades from shimmery silvers and plums to dark matte browns and blacks. My favorite part about this palette is that the colors aren’t your typical neutrals but aren’t so vibrant that one would be scared to wear them. Does that make sense?! p391755-av-01-hero300

NASCAR Inspiration Outfits

If you had told me 2 short years ago that I’d spend my Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR, I’d have laughed in your face. But guess what I do on most Sunday afternoons I have off? I watch the NASCAR Sprint Cup races! This is my hardworking husband’s first year in the Sprint Cup series. He works as an engine tuner for the #31 car driven by Ryan Newman. NASCAR put into place a new point system this year and Ryan has been very consistent with the points that he has made it all the way to The Chase (kind of like the Super Bowl of racing) without winning one… Single…. Race! I couldn’t be more proud of my husband and his team. They’ve worked so hard to get to where they are and I think it says a lot about Ryan Newman that he’s beat the odds and not won a single race but made it all the way to the top four!

Enough bragging, let’s get down to the fun stuff! I thought I’d dedicate a post to the women racing fans out there with a couple different CUTE outfits to show support of your favorite driver and team!

This first outfit inspiration is for none other than the #31 car of course! For those of us that won’t be in Homestead, Florida for the race this outfit will be perfect for the Arctic blast we’re having everywhere else in the country.

image1-4

1. You can find this VERY cute (and wearable for NASCAR!) Ryan Newman shirt here for only $19.99.

2. I paired this shirt with some fun boyfriend-style jeans to keep the look casual and fun! You can find them here for $248. Yes, that’s pricey but I’ve found out through the years that jeans are an investment. If you invest in quality denim, they’ll last you forever!

3. And you CAN’T sport a Ryan Newman shirt without representing his top sponsor Caterpillar! You can find these snazzy booties here for $130. They’ll look great with the jeans rolled up twice!

This next outfit inspiration is dedicated to my second favorite driver Jimmie Johnson. Yes, I know he is no longer in The Chase but he’s still one of the best drivers in NASCAR history and I must say he is one of the most humble and thoughtful of them all!

image2-1

1. Ok, I’m obsessed with this tank! Sorry husband, but I plan to snag me one of these! You can find it here for $24.99.

2. For whatever reason this super cute cardigan is no longer available but you could rock this similar one here. Or you could wear the tank without the cardigan if you’re a Floridian!

3. These booties would go perfect with the jeans from the previous outfit and #48 tank. Not to mention they’re the same color as his sponsor, Lowes. You can find them here for $89.00.

One last thing to go with both of these outfits is one of fall’s must have products… A burgundy lip!

whiteninglightning-september161879-1995_1

I love this one by Gerard Cosmetics created by the amazing makeup artist, Jaclyn Hill.

*Good luck to all four drivers in The Chase! But lets be real, there’s only one I’ll be cheering for! Let’s put the pedal to the metal #31!!!*

Nars Ita Brush

Contouring has taken over the makeup world this past year. Everyone is doing it or attempting to do it…. Literally! Whether you’re using powder products the Jaclyn Hill way or using cream foundations and concealers like Goss Makeup Artistit doesn’t matter. We all have tried every technique!

IMG_5318

I know this brush has been around for a while now but wasn’t able to get my hands on one until my dear mama bought me one for my birthday this past month. Every time the brush was re-released, it would become sold out within a matter of hours. It’s been THAT popular! The Nars Ita Brush ($55) is the best, most fool-proof way ANYONE can contour and highlight their cheekbones, nose, and forehead.

The Ita Brush is made of goat hair (humanely I’m hoping!) and not as dense as most contouring brushes. This makes the color application process so easy! I only swipe into my sculpting powder (MAC Sculpting Powder in Bone Beige) ONCE and tap off excess before starting at the top of the bottom of my cheekbone (does that make sense?!) and brushing down back and forth until I get the desired amount of product for that sculpted look. It’s literally THAT easy!

I don’t normally like to contour on a daily basis because sometimes it can look muddy and not “real”. But since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve noticed that my face is starting to fill out so contouring my cheekbones and nose have helped me feel less puffy! If you’re into contouring and highlighting, INVEST in this brush!! You won’t regret it!!

Transition Color

My number one pet peeve with makeup application is NOT BLENDING! It’s the most important thing you can do to set yourself apart from an amateur to a “pro”. It makes everything just come together seamlessly. It’s possible to not blend your foundation, your blush, or even your bronzer to the full extent. But today I’m going to be talking about blending out eyeshadow. Let’s face it, your eyes are the most fun to play up. At least for me it is! Before I started working for MAC Cosmetics my super talented best friend, Julia, told me about the most important makeup tip that you could ever know….. Transition color.

A transition color is a light matte color that is used between the lid/crease eyeshadow color and the brow highlight. The Mac-Daddy of all transition colors will always be Soft Brown by MAC. It goes with every shadow and skin undertone known to man. When building a makeup collection, it’s one of the most important staples to invest in. Trust me! And guess what? Applying the transition color is so simple that even a monkey could do it! Below I’ll show you how to correctly add this one tiny step into your makeup routine! You’ll be glad you did!

Tools Needed:

Your transition color; Soft Brown by MAC and a less dense crease blending brush (I use Sigma’s E40 Tapered Blending Brush. You’ll remember me telling you all about it in my Sigma Brushes Review post here.

Transition Color - Peaches & Glitter

Step 1: Apply an eye primer! This will make the colors last all day and it will help with a flawless application. My favorites are MAC Paint Pots.

Step 2: Apply your transition color before all other colors! This way, when you are applying all of the other colors to your eyes it will be easier to blend up into the transition color. Start by swiping your brush into the product and gently tap off any excess so you won’t be blending out a ton of color for so long. Less is more with this application. Start in the outer corner of your eyes natural crease and sweep the color back and forth like windshield wipers. The color doesn’t have to precisely be in the crease. It can go onto your lid and also higher up on the brow bone. You’ll be applying your other colors on top so you won’t see the color once everything else is applied. Keep blending back and forth in windshield wiper motions until the color has faded up to your brow bone like the pictures below.

Transition Color - Peaches & Glitter

Transition Color - Peaches & Glitter

And just like that, you’re done with your transition color! It’s honestly THAT simple! And now you will never have to worry about having an unblended look! Let me know if you have anymore questions! I’d love to help out!

Sigma Brushes; They Will Change Your Life!

Everyone knows that quality makeup brushes are an investment. It took me a good 3 years to collect brushes for my kit. And I even got a discount since I used to work for MAC Cosmetics! About 90 percent of my kit are MAC products because it’s whats I know. And I love the company. The only thing that I DON’T love about the company is that they sell their products in China. By Chinese law, any beauty company that sells it’s product must be tested on animals before it is distributed in their country. So if you’re not a fan of animal testing like myself, make sure you research the company thoroughly to see if they distribute to other countries. It’s saddening that the brand can “claim” to not test on animals just because they don’t in our country. What I am trying to say with this is that over the past year I’ve been trying other brands of makeup that are 100 percent cruelty-free. Among these brands I found actual budget friendly, QUALITY brushes!! Meet Sigma Beauty! Sigma was started back in 2009 by a Brazilian couple with backgrounds in business and molecular biology who found the need for affordable, quality brushes. A lot of their brushes are compared to MAC brushes also using synthetic and natural fibers.

Overall Pros: The face brushes are hands down, the very best I’ve ever used. My foundation, concealer, and powder blends flawlessly into my skin! You won’t find a bit of product caked onto an area of my face. I would always use my fingers to blend in foundation and since using Sigma, I can’t go without using my brushes. I’ll explain below! Another pro is the ability to blend all products. liquid, powder, creams, etc! Ok, and not to mention the price points! Can’t beat it!

Overall Cons: Some of the brushes have gotten a little frayed and lost their shape. But this really hasn’t effected the application of product. I’ve just found that I can’t be too heavy-handed. Again, I’ll go into more detail below! A few brushes have had quite a bit of shedding but not to where it effects application. And lets be honest, ALL brushes shed! Especially brand new brushes. I’ve taken a snazzy photo of my own personal collection and thought I’d review each one for you from left to right! *I’m also including a direct link to each brush so you can get a better visual. Also you can make a GREAT purchase! * Sigma Brushes   1. E21 Smudge Brush – ($14) I use this cute little guy to smudge liner on the lid or smudge shadow under the lower lash line for a smokey effect. Because of the density of this brush, I like it better than a pencil brush to smudge kohl and powder products. It also makes a great lip brush! 2. E47 Shader Crease Brush – ($14) This brush is perfect for doing a tight-lined crease look (example here). It’s made specifically for this application so you can get a more defined crease and gradient effect. But make sure you go back over it with a blending brush!!! So imperative when doing this look! 3. E65 Small Angle Brush – ($14) The best angled liner brush on the market! Why? These brushes wear out the quickest because of the pressure that comes with applying gel or liquid liner. This particular brush has kept it’s shape for almost a year now! 4. E50 Large Fluff Brush – ($16) I use this to apply a powder highlight on my cheek bones. It can be used as an all-over lid color as well. I mainly like to use it for a the cheek highlight since it is a bit bigger but small enough to use for your cheeks. This brush also works great with cream highlighters! 5. E25 Blending Brush – ($14) This brush is just like the MAC 217 brush. I never thought that I could find a better blending brush than the 217. But I did! The bristles are the perfect combination of density but not so dense that it won’t blend out color. If you are going to have ONE eyeshadow brush you need this brush! It can be used to apply an all-over, soft color for the lid, a darker color for the outer corner of the lid, but mainly it’s meant to blend out color. The best advice I can give for blending is windshield wiping motions back and forth over and over and over again! Blend until you can’t blend anymore! Trust me, it will blend out! 6. E32 Exact Blend Brush – ($14) I use this dense brush to apply a highlight on my brow bone. It’s the perfect size for this specific application. If you have small lids, it’s also great at packing on loose pigments. I wouldn’t wet this brush though. It’s dense but very thick. You would need a slimmer brush for apply wet product. 7. F86 Tapered Kabuki Brush – ($24) The gorgeous Jaclyn Hill converted this brush into a different application than it was originally made for! And let me tell you, she hit the nail right in the coffin! This brush is PERFECT for blending in cream and liquid concealers. Yes, it’s a big brush but it’s right on the money for concealer because of the pointed tip. Don’t sweep the product back and forth, use stippling motions for the best blending. Back and forth motions will just remove the product. 8. E40 Tapered Blending Brush – ($14) Why this is called a “tapered” blending brush is beyond me! It’s definitely not tapered. I use this to also blend out color in the crease but I mainly use it for applying a soft brown color in the upper crease to give that gradient effect. I plan to do a tutorial on this in the next week or so! 9. Makeup Geek Cheek Highlighter Brush – ($8.99) How did I manage to forget to talk about this brand/brush above?! I’m OBSESSED with Makeup Geek! The YouTube channel, the colors, the brushes, everything! I want to be Marlena (Makeup Geek founder) when I grow up! All of her products are made in the USA and are cruelty free. I found this brush when I was watching one of her YouTube videos and loved the idea of it. I ordered it and found the greatest cheek highlighter brush! It’s so simple because all that you do is use a stippling motion to apply either powder or cream highlighting products to your cheeks. Simple as that! 10. E55 Eye Shading Brush – ($14) I use this brush for an all-over lid color. It’s bigger and a little more dense than the E32 so it’s perfect for a bigger lid area. Not to mention oh-so soft!! 11. F80 Flat Kabuki Brush – ($24) This is the Holy Grail of all foundation brushes!! I haven’t found one better than this life-changing brush! I squirt one pump of liquid foundation onto the back of my hand, dip the edge of the brush into the foundation and then start softly swiping the brush back and forth from inside out. Once all of the product has covered the face and neck, start using a stippling motion to blend the product even further into the skin. Now it looks like you have flawless, even skin with no foundation on! I’m serious when I say YOU NEED THIS BRUSH!!!! 12. F05 Small Contour Brush – ($20) I use this brush to contour my “cheek bones”; or lack there of! It’s the perfect shape and width to get a clean swipe of contour powder right under the cheek bones. Besides the size of the brush my other favorite thing about it is that it has kept it’s shape through washing my brushes. This is really important with contour brushes because the wider they get, the more product will come off onto the skin and it can easily look muddy and not contoured. Does that make sense?! *Tip: make sure you tap excess powder off of the brush before use. This way you’re less likely to get that dirty cheek look. =)   I hope you walk away with some good brush knowledge from this post! I’ve had a blast sharing it with you! Xoxo

July 4th Must-Haves!

Who doesn’t love an excuse to dress up like Uncle Sam threw up red, white, and blue all over you?! July 4th has become somewhat of a second Halloween to me. I LOVE going to Party City and getting gaudy headbands, hats, removable tattoos, necklaces, etc. What can I say, I love my country!
The great thing about these must-haves is they can be worn to any sort of gathering. The beach, lake, backyard barbecue, etc. My favorite trend that I’m seeing this year is the American flag scarf . They can make any outfit patriotically cute! I plan to wear mine with a blue maxi dress. =) My most favorite product for the summertime is Laura Mercier’s Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer. It’s perfect for those outdoor events because of the SPF and it gives you that summer glow that we all crave! I love to just slap this on if I have to run out of the house for errands. Hands down, best tinted moisturizer!
Throw some glittery shadow on your eyes, pink blush, and red gloss and you’ll be giving lady liberty a run for her money! Hope everyone has a great and SAFE holiday!!
